A Meaningful 4th of July Project!

Hello friends!
I hope you are having an amazingly wonderful week!
I am SO looking forward to a LONG overdue BREAK from home renovations.
My husband and I are officially taking time away from the house to have some friends from Michigan visit—YAYYYY!!!  And really just enjoy life.
****But stay in touch via the Crafty Scrappy Happy facebook page during my blogging vacation/break—-there will be photos and updates on my house progress and the weekend fun!****

And so, with that said…. you may not be hearing from me quite as much in the next few days—-AND I have decided to NOT host the regular Crafty Scrappy Happy Thursday Party….. I am honestly torn as to if I will continue hosting it at all—- do you have feelings about it one way or another?!
Anyways, I am rambling… sometimes I do that!
For today and for this upcoming holiday I thought I would share a post from last summer–because the majority of your were not around back then, I thought it was worth sharing again…. because I think that the meaning of the 4th of July is just as important as the actual celebrating!!!

This project is very meaningful to my husband and I am is also a wonderful way of saying thank you on 4th of July!

____________

~Without further ado here is my project for today~

**But with a bit of explanation.**

I have been feeling really patriotic lately.  Yes, it’s probably because the 4th of July is nearing, but it is also because my husband (Cal) just finished serving his last of eight years in the army.  I have been trying to think of a way to “commemorate” his time in the military in a meaningful way.  I came up with this re-vamp of a project I did a few months ago.

This project is a little way for me to say THANK YOU to him for giving up so much to serve the country.

**Okay, so on to the “how I did it” part**

So, I know I have definitely mentioned that adore all things having to do with encyclopedia paper, so my project definitely utilizes my beloved encyclopedia—the Atlas and Index version!

We punched out stars from all of the meaningful places Cal had been throughout his military career.  It was such a special way for me to learn more about each training and “tour” overseas.

I then taped the stars to a piece of vellum I printed a meaningful quote on.
“Land of the Free, Because of the Brave”

Then I tried to pick the perfect background for my project…(encyclopedia paper is most definitely included in this line-up!).

But at the last-minute my Cal asked me if I had any of the letters that he had sent me when he was overseas.  And OF COURSE I did.  The letter I ended up using was one of the most special, it was before we were even dating and it talked about the feeling Cal had for me.  Siighhhhh.  Love story for sure!

Sooo special to me.

And don’t worry I have many MANY more love letters to save and treasure!

I sewed each star individually right down the middle because I knew I wanted to fold them up a bit when I was done.  And then I sewed the vellum to the letter.

Kind of a fun project and super meaningful to my husband and I.

What do you think will you be making your own special version of this meaningful project?
See—-old, but good right?!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and beyond!

Comments

  1. I love this project!

  2. Thanks to your husband for his many years of service! I love that his collaboration on this project made it even more meaningful to y’all.

Enjoy your break. I will miss the party if it goes away forever, but I understand how demanding it may be.

  3. Cute Jaime! I love that you went with the letter. Aw. Thank you Cal for serving our great country!

  4. Jaime, that is so cool! How neat that you could incorporate a “love letter” to boot. Super cool. Have fun w/your MI friends.;)

  5. I think this is the best idea. Why not use those beautiful words with a piece you can see all the time. You’ve one a great job! And have fun on your break, I will be taking one too, at the end of July into August. Much needed.

  6. Perfect quote! Thanks so much to your husband for his service to our Country. It is because of people like him {and wives like you!} that we are all able to enjoy so many of the freedoms we get.

As for the party, of course I love it! Seeing other projects that people link up (and being able to share my own) is great. I do know that it is a pretty big undertaking having to do it each week and then choose features. I know I’ll stick around either way though :)

  7. So sweet and meaningful! I absolutely love it and your sweet voice shines right through. Good to know you haven’t changed much over the last year (in a good way) since I only found you in February:)

I’ve been feeling less linky party happy recently, but it might just be the summer, maybe put it on hold til September?

  8. Love this! What a wonderful treasure to be passed down for generations! I am a sucker for a good old fashioned love letter.

Enjoy your break! I am exhausted linking up to parties and with summer here I barely find the time to do it. A summer break might not be a bad idea :) .

  9. Oh my goodness…this is EXTRAORDINARY!
You are giving meaning and significance to this holiday in a fresh way.

Enjoy your time with your mitten state friends and your bloggy break!
    Blessings!

  10. Jaime, again, love this 4th project. Have an amazing vaca with friends!!

  11. Such a meaningful project!!! Have a wonderful, happy, relaxed, enjoyable time off!!! No one deserves it more!

  12. Really cool ideas for this project. It turned out very nice.
Hope you have a relaxing break and hope to see posts from you again soon even if you do decide not to continue the Thursday parties.

  13. LOVE this project! And as much as I love your link party and would greatly miss it if gone, I would totally understand if it’s too much work. Especially, when you are renovating a new house! Lucky girl. ;)

  14. What lovely project, sigh, so romantic both in the relationship sense and in the patriotism sense. And what a great thing to have hand-written letters saved, it seems like no one does that anymore. Way to go on realizing that you need a break and actually doing–here’s to some rejuvenation!

  15. Love the meaningful projects. So sweet!! You have a grand time on vacation. Soak it up and forget about the house. ENJOY!!!

  16. Hi Jaime!

I took a summer vacation…and probable permanent vacation…from my link party. To be honest, I love seeing others projects, but hosting and doing the work behind the scenes was more of a task and less of a joy for me. I’m enjoying putting effort into more posts instead. Either way, people who love your blog will stick around!!!

    Enjoy your vacation :)
    Sarah

  17. A truly AMAZING project, sweet girl!! What a tribute to your husband and his (and your) sacrifices. Brought tears to my eyes!
