The Awful “Before” Guest Bedroom Post

Well hello there blog friends!

I am back and ready to get sharing some house PROGRESS FINALLY!!!!

Yayyyy!

I can finally say that we are getting VERY close to being done with our downstairs and I am getting more and more excited to show you the steps it took to get to where we are soon going to be now that we are so close to finishing!  There is just something about posting the “before” photos when I am SOOO much closer to being DONE!!!

AND on that note….  I am DONE with my the first room in my house.  DONE.  I may have thought it would be the bathroom that I made quick progress on a month and a half ago when I moved into my new place… but NO that is still sitting trim-less…. one of these days we will get our trim “guy” in to complete the room…. but surprisingly the first room to be finished in our house is our GUEST BEDROOM!  And I shouldn’t really be all that surprised about it… because it is the one room in the house that I WANTED and NEEDED to be done before my best friend from Michigan came to visit…  Funny how when you have motivation… spaces get completed right?!

Anyways, I am SO excited to show you the final look of the room but to just jump right to the “reveal” would be NO fun….

and so here are some before photos.

All I can say is ooohhhh boy!

AND

I should note that these are photos with the previous owners “stuff”

I cannot be held responsible for the original “look” of the room!

but I think you have to see it to get the full idea here!

I should also note that this quirky closest/only passageway to the what-is-not the master bedroom on the second floor is STILL here but will be going away when we take on stage TWO of our home renovations….

I keep having to tell myself ONE thing at a time!

and here my friends is my “in-progress” photo for you….

when I wonder why, no I don’t wonder, I cry myself to sleep at night screaming and sobbing WHYYYYY didn’t I RUN at the sight of wallpaper?!

WHYYYY!!!????

Yes my friends, the wallpaper was HORRIBLE to take down….

and now that I can look into the other room and see the finished product I can say it was all worth it….

but WOW did the wallpaper almost defeat me.

And I whole heartedly believe that you can only truly understand this wallpaper-induced-hysteria when you yourself have taken down horribly prepped and placed wallpaper in your residence….

because to say you think you understand….well no, I just don’t believe you can!

And I say this having tried, steamers, chemicals, water and a sponge, scrapers and scorers….  and at the end of the day… well wallpaper STINKS to take down!

I honestly am SERIOUSLY considering new drywall in the 2 rooms and 1 hallway that still have wallpaper remaining…!

All I can say, is thank goodness for this view!!!  The lake has really been the ONLY reason for my sanity and drive to FINISH rooms and get to the enjoying part of our new place!!!

ahhhh see, it makes me feel SOOOO much better just looking at the lake, that I don’t REGRET ANYTHING!

And, what is even better, is that this room,

well this room is a success story…. and you will see why TOMORROW!!!!

So stay tuned for the {first} Crafty Scrappy Happy Lake house “REVEAL”!!!

Comments

  1. Jaime- can’t wait!

  2. Looking forward to the reveal. I am giving you my imaginary button to wear proudly. It says “I conquered Wallpaper”, because I don’t intend to ever ever EVERRRRRRR need it again. My sanity depends on NOT returning to that scenario.

  3. I’ve always said wallpaper removal is the worst job ever! Can’t wait to see what you do with the room!! HUGS, Sunday

  4. With that view, anything is possible! Just think, you’ll have the best biceps in town when you are done!

  5. Just keep going, don’t get disheartened! I’m sure it’ll look fantastic (and if not, just offer your guests a hammock near the lake and they’ll be happy anyway ;-)

  6. Oh girl, I feel your pain. We are going to be in the SAME boat come August. If you have any tips about the wallpaper, let me know! I can’t wait to see what you do, that room has lots of potential!

Cant wait to see big reveal. When I was a kid I though wallpaper removal was fun but as an adult I truely HATE it. I have a sitting room that is covered with woodchip wallpaper painted iver bout a dozen times. Ahh! Thiughts of starting are scary but thanks to you Jamie for sharing I know I too can do it. Love and best.

  8. I’ll be back first thing to see the results!!!

I hate wallpaper with a passion, it is clearly the work of the devil.

  9. Thank you so very much for linking to Homa Style. The link party is new but I hope you get a bump in visits. I know you will get sweet comments on your room redo because it’s incredible! I have to date never had to remove wallpaper *knocking on wood*. And I just realized I commenting on the before post…anyway. Thanks.

  10. Rebekah says:

Great cozy lake house spare bedroom. I can attest to that since I’ve slept in it. We said in the car…”Oh we forgot Brady’s bed(labrador retriever).”
No need to worry. Jaime has a pooch friendly hotel with a bed for the pup.

  11. You did an amazing job as always with the makeover… Have a great weekend!
